This has been bugging me for about two weeks now. Every so often after I park and get out, I catch this faint burning smell near the front of the car, sort of acrid, kind of like hot plastic or rubber. It's not constant, some days nothing, other days it's there. No smoke, no warning lights, temperature is normal, and the car drives completely fine otherwise. I checked under the bonnet and couldn't see anything obvious, no melted wires, no leaks I could spot. My first thought was clutch, but it's an automatic, so that's out. Then I wondered about the brakes dragging, or maybe something with the AC compressor, or even just oil dripping onto something hot. I found a Helpful guide to what a burning smell from your car means while googling around and it listed a few possibilities I hadn't considered, which made me realise I should probably get this looked at properly instead of sniffing around and guessing. My question is how do you narrow down the source when it's intermittent, and is there anything I can safely check myself before booking it in? Also is there any smell that's a definite "stop driving immediately" signal versus one that can wait?

Strange burning smell after driving, but only sometimes, what could it be? -
How do you actually verify a shop is doing genuine work and not cutting corners?Bit of a rant plus a genuine question here. I've been taking my C Class to the same place for two years and always felt fine about it, until a friend who knows cars looked at my engine bay and pointed out that the oil filter housing looked like it hadn't been touched in a while, despite me paying for oil and filter changes every time. I'm not saying they definitely skipped it, but now I'm paranoid and second guessing everything. It got me thinking about how little I actually know about what happens when I hand over the keys and pick the car up a few hours later. A colleague mentioned professional Mercedes Benz servicing near Musaffah Industrial Area where you can apparently ask to see the old parts or watch part of the work, which honestly never occurred to me as an option. My question is whether it's normal or rude to ask for old parts back, and whether that's even a reliable way to confirm the work was done. Also how do you build trust with a new shop without coming across as suspicious? I don't want to be that customer but I also don't want to be paying for work that isn't happening.

Alpine White paint looking yellowish, is this fixable or has the clear coat gone?My 4 Series is Alpine White and I've started noticing that it doesn't look crisp anymore, more of a dull cream shade especially on the roof and the bonnet, and next to a newer white car in the parking it looks almost beige which is a bit embarrassing honestly. I wash it regularly but I've never done anything beyond that, no wax, no polish, nothing, so I'm guessing years of sun have just taken their toll. A neighbour reckons it's oxidation sitting on top of the clear coat and a proper machine polish would bring the white back, but I'm worried that if it's actually clear coat failure then polishing would just make things worse or strip what's left. I came across Leading BMW detailing in Khalifa City while searching around and now I'm weighing up whether to get a professional opinion before I touch it myself or just try a small test patch with a compound I have in the garage. The thing is I don't want to spend money on correction if the paint is already past saving, but I also don't want to repaint a whole car if a polish would have sorted it. How do you actually tell the difference between oxidation and failing clear coat? Any telltale signs I should look for before deciding?

Bentley owners, where do you take yours for servicing without getting ripped off?I'll be honest, I've been putting off a proper service on my Continental GT for way longer than I should have because I genuinely don't know who to trust with it. The dealer is an option obviously but the last quote they gave me for brakes and a fluid change made me laugh out loud, and I'm not exactly short on cash but there's a limit to how much I'm willing to be treated like a walking wallet. The problem is that with a car like this you can't just hand it to any garage, one wrong move and you're looking at a five figure mess, and I've heard horror stories about shops that claim they handle exotics but clearly don't have a clue. A friend of a friend mentioned there are places in the industrial area doing Premium Bentley repair in Musaffah at prices that don't require a second mortgage, but I'm skeptical until I actually see the workshop and meet the techs. What I want to know is whether anyone here has first hand experience, specifically with things like air suspension, the W12 cooling system, or even just routine servicing done properly with genuine parts. Also how do you verify a shop actually knows these cars before letting them touch it, do you ask for certifications or just go by word of mouth? Any guidance would be appreciated because I can't keep delaying this.

My Wrangler is leaking something and I can't tell if it's seriousNoticed a small puddle under my Wrangler yesterday morning, reddish fluid which I'm guessing is transmission related, but I'm not mechanically minded enough to be sure. It's not a huge leak, more like a few drops overnight, but it's new and that worries me. I asked in a group chat and got the usual mix of "it's fine just top it up" and "you're about to destroy your gearbox" so that was useless. I've been looking into professional Jeep repair in Musaffah since I'm over that side of the city fairly often, and it seems like there are a few places that actually specialise rather than just claiming to. But I don't want to walk in and get told I need a full rebuild when it's just a loose fitting or a worn seal. Has anyone dealt with a transmission leak on their Jeep before? What did it end up being and roughly what did it cost you?

Spent three hours calling garages today, there has to be a better wayTrying to get a quote for a timing belt job and I've officially lost patience with the whole process. Called seven places, two didn't answer, three gave me wildly different numbers, one asked me to bring the car in just to give an estimate, and one quoted me something so low I'm fairly sure they misunderstood the job. My afternoon is gone and I'm no closer to booking anything. A friend mentioned 800sayara.com when I complained about this, said it's a site where you can look up different services without the endless phone calls, so I might give that a go tonight. Honestly at this point I just want to compare a few options side by side and make a decision instead of playing phone tag. How do you all handle this? Do you just pick one and commit or do you actually shop around every single time?

Bin liners keep slipping off the rim, anyone solved this?Small annoying problem but it is driving me mad. We bought a pedal bin 30l for our office pantry and the liner keeps sliding down inside the moment anything with a bit of weight goes in, so by the end of the day the bag is basically swallowed by the bin and everything is loose at the bottom. There is a plastic inner bucket with a rim that the bag is supposed to hook onto but it does not hold properly. I have tried knotting the bag tighter, folding the top over twice, even taping it once out of frustration which obviously is not a real solution. Is this a design flaw with the model we got or am I missing some obvious trick. Also do the specific liners matter because we just buy generic ones from the supermarket and maybe the sizing is slightly off. Would rather hear if other people have this same issue or if I just bought the wrong bin.

Downtown Dubai, Maserati battery acting up, any recommendations before I commit?I live in Downtown and my GranTurismo has started doing this thing where it cranks slowly in the morning and the clock resets randomly, which I am guessing is the battery. It is not dead yet but it is clearly on the way out. The problem is I do not want to just hand it to any random place because the last time I used a generic garage for something small they managed to mess up a setting and it took weeks to sort. I am looking for a trusted battery service for Maserati near Downtown Dubai, ideally someone who has actually worked on these cars before and not just claims to. Has anyone used a service in this area and can share what the experience was like, especially around the coding and whether they had to keep the car overnight? Also does anyone know if slow cranking on these cars is always the battery or could it be something else like the alternator, because I do not want to replace a battery and find out the real issue was elsewhere.
